Position Overview

We are looking for a Marketing and Communications Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the COO, in partnership with the DOD, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will contribute to and take a shared leadership approach in building and evolving the brand, marketing and communications strategies that will support the new strategic plan of Reconciliation Canada, its programs and initiatives. The Marketing and Communications Specialist is a proactive, team-oriented individual with a passion for the mission of Reconciliation Canada (RC). In collaboration with RC’s Leadership team, they are responsible for the development and implementation of RC’s national marketing and communications strategies including, and not limited to overseeing: the development of a new RC website, integrated marketing and digital engagement efforts; and providing direction and support in developing the communication components related to RCs programs, initiatives, events and fundraising activities towards the overall growth of RCs brand, revenue and mission.

Deliverables & Duties

  • Support the development and implement Reconciliation Canada’s national marketing and communications strategy, in collaboration with CEO, COO and RC’s Leadership team 
  • Manage the implementation and delivery of all Reconciliation Canada’s marketing and communications activities and materials including but not limited to print and online materials, newsletters, fundraising and campaign materials, event collateral, speeches, and presentations
  • Coordinate Reconciliation Canada’s new website development and make updates to the site as needed
  • Develop digital marketing strategy and curate the day-to-day social media content and calendar
  • Collaborate with the broader team on developing RC’s annual Communications Plan; responsible for Newsletter and Annual Report coordination and delivery
  • Assist Fund Development team in creating sponsorship and partnership proposals and fundraising appeals 
  • Help elevate RC’s brand awareness and reach through organic growth strategies; measure the success of RC’s marketing and communications strategy on a regular basis, escalating concerns and making recommendations for changes as required
  • Liaise with external contractors, vendors and service providers for marketing, communications, branding, public relations and graphic design
  • In partnership with the RC Leadership team, manage and coordinate public relations activities, including but not limited to  speaking engagements, media relations, media clippings, media monitoring,  research and writing press releases & media alerts
  • Ensure articulation of RC’s desired brand, assure consistent communication of image and position throughout the organization as according to brand guide, and assure communication of image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external
  • Collaborate within a strong culture based on our core values and reflective of our commitment to shared leadership, diversity and inclusiveness
  • Support the team with additional duties as required

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a high-performance staff team. Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree with experience in non-profit marketing and communications management
  • Familiarity with working with or in an Indigenous led organization, or familiarity with intercultural experiences
  • High level of intercultural sensitivity and interest in Indigenous issues
  • Strong written language skills
  • Experience with SEO and social media follower and content development 
  • Skills in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and/or Illustrator 
  • Experience working with Google Workspace and project management tools (e.g. Asana)
  • Familiarity with Keela an asset 
  • Ability to engage in collective decision making processes
  • Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently
  • Negotiation, interpersonal, organization, planning and communication skills 
  • Ability to organize, multitask, analyze, and problem solve in a fast-paced organization
  • Confident engaging with and working with a wide range of social groups
  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, flexible, and innovative approach to people engagement
  • Passion, humility, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
  • French language skills are an asset
